CeaseFirePA is Pennsylvania’s leading handgun violence prevention organization. The organization has issued endorsements for both Republican and Democratic candidates for the State Assembly who have shown commitment to fighting for stricter laws to reduce handgun violence, and have shown leadership on the issue.

Steve Rovner committed to fighting for common sense handgun safety legislation including lost and stolen handgun reporting, one-handgun-a-month purchase limits, a ban on assault weapons, and to fight broadly for stronger handgun safety laws in the Assembly.

Rovner explained, “Our [current] laws allow felons to obtain handguns. One of the most important measures available in Pennsylvania that other states have already enacted is… to close the Straw Purchaser loophole by mandating that people report lost and stolen weapons. Make it a law. Legislate it. My opponent voted against it. There is no excuse for that.”

In April of 2008, incumbent Scott Petri voted against this common sense reform, explaining, “If you voted ‘yes,’ you were potentially criminalizing normal innocent people.” To which Rovner replied, “Normal innocent people report their weapons missing when they are lost and stolen. This is just another example of a State Representative caving to the influence of special interests.”

At the press conference today, Grace commended Rovner’s conviction, explaining, “We need stronger voices of reform, we need stronger agents of change. If your handgun is lost or stolen, report it to the police, that’s all the law does… police and law enforcement groups across the state want it to track down illegal gun trafficking and to get handguns out of the hand of criminals… We are not against the Second Amendment. We are not against anybody’s reasonable right to protect themselves, their family, their home, their business. It’s in the Constitution. This is about illegal handguns and keeping them out of the hands of the wrong people. Scott Petri voted against that reform. He had his opportunity as an elected member of the house, and he came up short. He came up wrong. He voted NO.”

A Message from Steve-------

This is an exciting time in our country, state, and district. Our community desires new leaders to bring about change through responsible and sensible government. We have seen a stalemate in Harrisburg because of selfish partisan and special interest politics standing in the way of progress. We need to elect leaders to take charge of reform and fight for policies that will protect and benefit our citizens every day. Bucks County residents desire a local leader that they can rely upon to stand up for them at home and in Harrisburg.

I have a passion to serve and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and fighting for the residents of our 178th community each and every day I am allowed.

I hope to meet as many voters as possible at their homes, ball fields, community groups or on the streets to listen to their concerns and explain my positions. Direct voter and constituent contact is the best way to know the issues that are affecting our district and our residents deserve nothing less than a representative who will meet with them, listen to them, and go out and work on their behalf. This is the type of representative I will be.

With your help and support, I will be elected to serve as your Pennsylvania State Representative in the 178th District.
